Abstract

The smart airport, as part of the smart city, is a fundamental component of tourism. The aim of this study is to analyze the influence of sociodemographic factors on passengers’ decisions to use self-service technologies in different airport processes. A quantitative design was employed, based on a binary logistic regression model applied to a sample of 400 passengers. When analyzing the variables age, gender, education, occupation, flight frequency and purpose of travel, the results show that all factors except gender influence the decision to obtain a boarding pass, while only age influences baggage check-in. Gender and age affect the decision to obtain baggage tags, and gender and flight frequency influence the desire to use biometric passports. These findings imply that the implementation of self-service technologies in airports should be planned through segmented strategies.
