Abstract

This study analyzes the process of touristification in Seville and its effects on urban life and residents’ well-being. The objective is to examine how the intensification of tourism in the city affects locals’ economic, community, and emotional satisfaction, as well as their perceptions of health and safety. To this end, a structural equation modeling methodology is employed using data obtained from a sample of 160 respondents. The results show a positive effect on economic satisfaction, as well as a negative impact on community satisfaction and perceptions of health and safety. Among the practical implications, touristification has negative consequences, such as the depletion of natural resources, conflicts with the local population, and rising housing prices. A proper understanding of the factors that influence local residents’ perceptions of tourism can help promote sustainable tourism.
