Abstract

Bahía Blanca, Argentina, has thermal resources with the potential to diversify the local tourism offer. To advance their tourism and recreational use, it is essential to determine their optimal location within the urban area. The aim of this study is to propose and rank thermal water extraction points through the application of Multicriteria Evaluation (MCE) techniques in a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) environment. The methodology integrates technical criteria related to the characteristics of the extraction points with socioeconomic variables and tourism attractiveness factors. The results allow the identification, among ten alternatives, of the most viable location under real urban conditions, rather than the best option in abstract terms. The study provides a replicable methodological tool to support urban tourism planning and the activation of territorial heritage resources.
